Milo does not love the car seat. He’s an explorer, and it is very hard to explore with his body five-point-harnessed! I’ve tried many forms of entertainment: snacks (this is the best toddler investment EVER!), songs, animal sounds, toys… Everything eventually wears out except for the toys, which he could play with and throw, play with and throw, play with and throw, play with and throw…you get the picture. I stretch and reach and fish for the fallen balls under and behind the back seats while Milo squeals for more…it is fun, dangerous, and exhausting!
Yesterday I had a stroke of genius…What if I took this little-used striped sock…
…stuffed the ball into the toe and tied a knot…
***a baseball is probably too hard for this project, I learned later! Use a rolled up pair of socks instead!***
…and fastened a snap to the end?
Then, I just might have a ball that could be thrown and thrown and thrown without all of the stretch and reach and fish!!!
Snap that baby around the strap of the car seat and we’re ready for hours of fun in DC rush hour!
And it’s easy to remove and snap onto the grocery cart handle…
and the stroller bar…
Genius.

hey, so simple yet so clever! it definitely is so dangerous reaching back for purposely thrown toys … gonna have to try this, but perhaps with a beanbag instead of a ball.
I've just started up my own blog. Hope you'll have the time to check it out.

I could kiss you right now. We're driving 2 1/2 hours to Reno this weekend and Mason sounds a lot like Milo in the car seat. We've got half an hour covered with the "My Baby Can Read" DVD… but then there are the other two hours…
I'll let you know how it goes!
Brilliant. I should try that with Christian.
Good idea, except that if you slammed on your breaks, or got in an accident that ball could be DEADLY!
Read this article to see the damage done by just a *sippy cup*!!!

Anything loose in your car is deadly in an accident.
I like this idea but instead what about a soft plushy ball? that would be fairly safe and he can still throw it
You're right Jillyn. I ended up trading the baseball for a tennis ball, and with the next one will definitely go for a plush ball instead. The baseball was all I had around when creating this, but your point on safety is well taken.
