Yep, we’re working on the big PT this weekend. Milo has been showing signs of readiness for a couple months (telling me when he’s wet/dirty, taking off his diaper, wanting to sit on the potty, etc.) so we thought kick-start it with a weekend of training, and see what happens.
What has happened thus far is the toddler and mama camped out in the kitchen (due to several sprinkles on the living room carpet, ya know?), playing with toys, drinking watered down juice and listening for the timer that signals “potty time!!” So far, I think I’ve become better trained than the boy (and deserve those chocolate chips just as much as he does!) My cougar-like reflexes are kicking in and I can whip him mid-stream to that froggie soon enough to get to do the “Pee Pee in the Potty” rap/dance that we both enjoy so much…
He is getting it, though…ever so slowly. It takes time to train and strengthen those potty muscles. I know, I am pregnant and occasionally sneeze:)
Ah, well. The Superhero Squad is on the horizon, even if they do get doused from time to time in these next few weeks…I don’t think they’ll mind too much, do you?
Any tips for successful Potty Training would be much appreciated from you more experienced moms:)

I have twin girls, and we went with the same approach: get rid of diapers cold turkey and hang out in the kitchen/bathroom until figuring it out. By day three, we were doing OK and managed to get out of the house for a short trip. By the end of the week, they both had it down….or so I thought. Actually, one had it down and was even dry at night from then on. The other had accidents for several months and still needed a diaper at night until she turned 4. It goes to show that even though you do the same thing for more than one kid, they still are the ones who ultimately decide the outcome. Good luck!
PS. Thanks for the sewing help via email. I'll be sure to let you know when I have some new maternity clothes to show off.
I used a book called "Potty Training in A Day", and it actually worked . It was a loooong day tho.
Just like Lauren said, get rid of the diaper completely, even at night! Its okay if they wet the bed, that way they know how it feels and trust me they don't usually like it! Good luck!
@Carol,
I saw that book online and a review said it was for older kids, but I think I'll grab it at the library tomorrow (or send Dave for it) and we'll see what it's all about!
@Fallon,
I'm going to trust you about overnight, and plan on waking up to change sheets a couple times!! I might call you, too!
Thanks guys! He's already doing so much better! It's amazing to see the dots connect!
That's so exciting. We just last weekend got Ella (who is now 2 yrs. 7 months) to seriously train, and she totally did it! This is after several failed attempts and she really just didn't care too, and if I've learned anything it goes sooooo easy if they are ready too. Also I don't know if this helped, but 2 other things motivated her: Chad said all her toys were gonna leave to go play with a "big girl" who wore panties if she didn't try, and she is SUPER motivated by treats so I bought a costco sized bag of swedish fish and she gets 2 every time she goes! So far no accidents at ALL, but I also leave a pull-up on for a while until they start waking up dry, which for Lily took till she was 4! Good Luck you cute Mama!!!
I meant a pull-up at night only
And you better let me know when your in UT again crazy lady, I'd love to come see you!
Good for you! We've been gearing up too but I'm a little anxious about pulling the trigger — especially considering Christian is with a babysitter all week. I hear it's a good idea to set a timer to go off each hour so you don't get caught up in things and forget. Suerte!
