The Four-Bow Dress

Happy Monday. Is yours feeling as “manic” as mine today? I am trying to pull myself together from a fun, busy weekend. You know, catch up on dishes, laundry, vacuuming, meal planning, budget planning, activity planning…a stay at home mom’s usual.
Last Friday before all the weekend blur began, I put a fun order in the mail (“…and another one down, and another one down…“). You’ll all remember the Big Bow Dresses that I created for Easter last year? And then some more for a wedding a few months ago? Well, I was talking about them with my sister on this trip to Utah, and she asked if I could make the bow removable. I figured that it would work, but–seeing as how I have boys and no real reason to sew bunches of dresses…yet icon wink The Four Bow Dress –hadn’t tried it out.
Serendipitously, I received an email a couple weeks later with a custom order inquiry for, you guessed it, a Big Bow Dress with interchangeable bows.
I started with a pretty, simple sage bow dress, but made a couple little modifications to allow the bow to slide in an out from behind the pleats. Then I added snaps instead of stitches on the corners of the bow.
The result is pretty fun! The rainbow bow was a special request for the recipient’s rainbow-themed birthday party (cute, right?) I chose the bright floral as a fun pop against the sage that will be fun in any season. The first three are adorable, but that colorblock navy blue bow ended up being my absolute favorite! Can you just see that dress with a tiny toddler pair of these?
Now, off to fold another load.
You’re welcome for the eighties throwbacks to help you through your day;)

Those are so cute! I love the interchangable bow! That dress would be great for a flower girl that is VERY popular, haha. Perfect to wear to a wedding, then for Easter, etc.

I wish I had one in my size.

    Hi Miranda,
When I was growing up in NM, my parents would get me a new pair of those Mary Jane's every time we came to Salt Lake City. They were into good leather shoes; I guess we couldn't get them in our small town. I had the blue ones, the brown ones and the red ones each more than once it seemed.I got so sick of them I would drag my feet all the way home from school to try and wear them out! Of course I love them now!

Super cute, and what a great idea! They grow out of their clothes so fast when they're little; this is a great way to make one party dress feel brand new and special on several different occasions. Love it!

wish you had a pattern for the bow dress. With 9 granddaughters I would have to make it myself and since I have been sewing for more than 50 years that would not be hard. Please consider offering pattern downloads (pdf) for these cute dresses. Thank you!

Charlotte, you’ll be happy to know that a pattern is in the works. It’s an involved process, but I hope to have it available in the next couple months!
